My name is Derrick, a Computer Science and Economics Double-Major student at the University of California, Berkeley.

This website is all about me, a mildly interesting guy who likes a lot of different things. On this site you'll find my resume, projects, hobbies, courses, personal resources, and contacts.

This website functions more as a repository of my personal interests, projects, and experiences. I'm always willing to explore new fields which is why you'll find a scattered list of activites and interests from fields like 3D design, coding, economic news, video gaming, data science, physics, music, and much more.

This website was built off of pre-existing code from https://github.com/marencka because of how much I loved the template.

Datathon: Impact of COVID on the Labor Market (Oct 2021)
- Used DeepNote and compared vaccination rates per 100,000 and death rate per 100,000 to unemployment rates and labor participation rate for each month by each state using data from the World Bank. Use of correlation, hypothesis testing, regression modelling, and data analysis.

- Currently interning with Comstruct (startup) as a front-end developer, creating a purchasing platform for construction materials. Using Flutter (using Dart) and applying object-orientated programming skills.

Case Competition: East West Bank Digital Banking Growth Plan (Nov 2021)
- Developed customer aquisition and growth plans for East West Bank to better target international students. Created a slide deck recommending partnerships with on-campus organizations, tailored cash-back programs, cross-selling strategies, and improving marketing focus.
Case Competition: Mintal Sleep Product and Promotion Strategy (Nov 2021)
- Developed new product features and promotional strategies for a sleep-monitoring app. Recommended gamification through in-game tokens redeamable for product coupons, period tracker integration, user referral incentives, and online and in-person promotional campaigns.
Case Competition: 24 Hour Fitness (Nov 2021)
- Performed market, customer, and company research to recommend improvements after bankrupcy. Recommended a tiered pricing system, cutting hours for some services and workers, partnering with activewear brands, and undergoing a digital transformation.

Business Review Berkeley - Senior Columnist (Jan-May 2022)
- Currently running the Economics column, editing columnist articles, holding weekly column meetings, organizing column writing workshops, and organizing column socials.
Next Gen Consulting Analyst - Lattice (Sept-Dec 2021)
- Through my consulting club Next Gen Consutling, consulted for Lattice, a $1 billion valued people management platform company collecting and analyzing key metrics breaking down regional competitors and partners across the EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regions. Synthesized findings through reports to construct comprehensive global landscape.
Business Review Berkeley - Writer (Sept-Dec 2021)
- Wrote articles about economic news through different lenses. Improved writing quality to better connect and contrast perspectives, improve brevity in writing, and improve writing flow. Wrote about the unusual fixed-price nature of video games, the US fiscal plans to decarbonize, and the revolution in empirical economic research.

E-Sports Athlete: UC Berkeley Overwatch "Blue" team (Sept-Dec 2021)
- Off-tank for the UC Berkeley Overwatch "Blue" team. Peak low-diamond. Play all tanks, mainly Sigma.
Self-Published Book: Dreams and Mountains (Jan-Aug 2020)
- Wrote and published my own 40,000 word fiction novel that explores the countless contradictions in life which create both complexity and confusion. All initial sale profits (~$300) were donated to charity (Daily Bread Food Bank).
3D Printing Face Shields (Mar-May 2020)
- Designed and 3D printed hospital-approved face shields using accessible materials with easy assembly. Donated 200+ face shields to local hospitals during PPE shortage.
3D Ray Gun (Jan-Mar 2020)
- 3D designed using Fusion 360 and painted (spray paint) a model ray-gun from Call-Of-Duty Zombies. (sepcifically from Black-Ops-2) Self-taught 3D design skills, used general mirroring, sketching, and design tools.
Song: Osft (Dec 2019)
- Created my own video-game music-inspired song using Garageband. Basic looping and other techniques learned and used.

- Ex-competitive swimmer at MAC, love playing basketball, soccer, skiing, open to try any sport!

- Casual chess player, peak 2063 in puzzles on chess.com. Love poker.
Music
- Ex-classical piano player, completed the ARCT Performers Piano exam with Honours. Love going to symphonies, gotta say San Fran Orchestra > Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Reading
- List of newsletters I follow and try to keep up to date with: Visual capitalist, The Economist, The information, Morning brew, TED, The Hustle, City news (680 news), The Conversation, Researcher, Ali Abdaal, Physics Today, CBC (sports, Minority report, etc), African Union newsletters, The Star (kenyan news), European Union newsletters, Asia Times. I try to keep up with the news.
